Raising money to help Royal for future
Last Friday Flemington School participated in a “R” dress up day to fundraise for Royal Sciascia. Royal is a student at Porangahau School. Earlier this year she was involved in a swimming incident at school while diving into the pool. She was air lifted to Hastings hospital where family was informed she had broken her neck, shattering three-cervical vertebrae resulting in a severe spinal cord injury. She was transported to Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital and underwent two six-hour surgeries on her neck. Royal spent the next three weeks in intensive care fighting her way through her injuries. She has been diagnosed with C6 incomplete tetraplegia, and now requires intensive physical, occupational and breathing therapy. Funds raised by the dress up day will go towards Royal’s treatment and recovery and will also help bridge the gap between what she is covered for and what she needs for a fulfilling and engaging life.
