Voting ramps up for business awards

Your Community Voice

Voting for the Katikati and Waihi Beach Community Business Awards closes Monday at 3pm and award organisers encourage the community to place a vote today. The top three finalists will be invited to attend the ceremony on September 3. Kylie Watkins from Katch Katikati and Vicki Lambert from Waihi Beach Community Events and Promotions are both very pleased with the voting process and number of votes received. “Within the first week of voting opening, we saw more than 2700 public votes against the 10 people’s choice categories,” says Kylie. “That’s the total amount of votes received overall for the 2020 Community Business Awards. “We see a real enthusiasm backing this years people’s choice nominations and voting process, and we hear some of the nominated people are going as far as engaging votes via email campaigns, using social media to spread the word, giving customers voting slips over the counter to ask for a vote and I’m sure other ways of engaging. “It gives a sense of pride towards their nomination and creates a bit more of a promotional push between communities.” The top five most voted categories for people’s choice are volunteer organisation, volunteer individual, retail business, service business and hospitality business. Kylie says 85 per cent of the total votes are made online and in some cases, voting is very close. “This is a wonderful chance for our communities to have a voice and be recognised and celebrated for their hard-working contribution to our communities.”
