Wairakei course perfect setting for charity event

If you are a golfer, there is no more beautiful a place to be on a crisp autumn day than at the Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary. The vivid colours of the deciduous trees, combined with the natives and evergreens plus the wonderful landscaping around the clubhouse was the perfect setting for Lake Taupo¯ Rotary to hold its Sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Since the first tournament was held in 2015, almost half of the teams have returned annually and their support is greatly appreciated. This year a total of 112 golfers from Taupo¯ and various other areas in the North Island gathered to compete and contribute to this year’s two very worthwhile local groups: Predator Free Taupo¯ and Taupo¯ Riding for the Disabled. Club members manned the barbecue kiosk all day and players were very pleased to have some expertly-cooked sausages and schnitzel to sustain them on their journey round the course. Had any golfer achieved a hole in one on the 10th green, a Subaru XV was the prize sponsored by Morrell Motors, but the car remained unclaimed. The winning team was a combination of players from Palmerston North and Auckland, while the winners of the individual competitions for men and Women were both new players from Taupo¯ .
