Doco, talk mark 40th
This Sunday, July 25, marks the 40th anniversary of the Springbok protest in Hamilton. To commemorate the day, Waikato Museum is screening Patu!, a documentary about the Springbok tour protests, directed by Merata Mita. The film will be followed by a public talk at 4pm by Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon of the Human Rights Commission. Before the screening, political activist John Minto will speak about the significance of the protests, the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, and the role of civil disobedience in a democratic society. At 11.30pm, there will be a reunion lunch at Anglican Action for anyone who participated in the campaign in 1981. Afterwards, at 1.30pm, Minto and supporters will be marching from Hamilton Garden Place to the FMG Stadium. Anyone interested in taking part, no matter which side of the fence they have been on, is welcome to join.
